What psi are we supposed to run in the the tires with the truck unloaded? The sticker on the door says 70 psi but the truck came form the factory with 52 psi. Recommendations??
i personally run about 45 all the way around.... makes for a softer ride, and our roads here are not nice, so it helps me. if i have to tow or haul something, i will pump up the rear a little.
My 265's came from the dealer with 85#.
I run mine at 80 now, just bumped up from 65.
The ride is of course bumpier but I an trying to get better gas mileage.
The only real downside is while running at highway speed and doing a turn then hitting a bump, the front end will try to scamper to the outside of the turn.
I wouldn't take them below 50, you MAY have to worry about breaking the bead if you hit a big enough bump.
Tire pressure is determined by the individual tire rating. Depends if it is "D" rated or "E" rated etc. Then the max printed on the sidewall will be for safe loaded psi. You can then decrease some when not loaded to get a softer ride.
Just remember, trucks that were originally equipped with code "S" 4000 pound front springs had a recommended pressure of 45 front and 70 rear, so evidently 45 is enough, even with a load range "E" tire. Before I installed code "X" springs, my truck had the code "S" springs, and that's what my door sticker said. For the summer, I am currently running 45 PSI all around with no problems.
