When I swapped my engine a few months ago on my '82 F150 2WD, I also replaced the C6 tranny with a rebuilt C6 from TCI complete with a new 2000 RPM stall convertor. Last month, I blew out the modulator valve and replaced it. Now, about half the time, when I go to back the truck up, especially if it's on an incline, it's like I have the emergency brake on and doesn't want to move. I can wrap the thing up until it "clunks" and then it backs fine, or I can stand on the brakes and wrap the thing until I feel a pull in reverse, then it will also back fine. Any ideas or where to look for the problem?
Hey Steve, unlikely, but you did put back the little pin that goes with the modulator, right? Also, have you checked with TCI about there recommended modulator valve or proper adjustment of the new modulator? Also, would there be an adjustment for the reverse band if it even exists in the C-6?

Yeah, the pin is in (poetic). It almost feels like I have to get the torque convertor spinning before it will lock up. I'm also wondering if the modulator valve was set different. I guess I should contact TCI. I did adjust it so that it would shift a little smoother in the forward gears.
Wait a minute. Can I adjust the shift modulator in my C6? I was wondering how to make it shift a little higher up when going from 1st to second. How do I go about this.
Thanks,
Brad
P.S. I know this sounds dumb but this is the first truck I have ever had with an automatic in it.
Hey I also have a TCI torque converter, but it is in a brand new B&M C6 Racing tranny and have noticed the same thing. My trans seems to run better whe it has more fluid than it should according to the dipstick. I have the breakaway converter but you still have to wind it up to get it to go. Prbably too much stall for the street.

Ouch, be careful. I just rebuilt another C6 and replaced my TCI. I found out that my TCI was totally trashed inside. I think for two reasons. One, I put in a deep aluminum pan (anyone want to purchase it for about 1/2 off??) and when I did I failed to replace a gasket above the filter and I think it started to suck air up with the fluid. We also noticed that the extended tube for the deep filter was a lot smaller than the standard filter inlet. Also, I had the 2000 stall converter but everything in my engine was stock with a 2.73 rear axle. I usually only ran 1200-1800 rpm on the street. From what my tranny guy tells me, this causes the converter to continue to slip and build a lot of heat. I did have a trans cooler but when we tore down the tranny, the fluid was badly burnt (Redline Synthetic) and second gear was sitting at the bottom of the pan and I barely had reverse.
