My 1986 F-150's door panels are flaking on top. I've looked at the replacement panels that can be ordered from JC Whitney. Has anyone had any experience with them? I have also seen a plastic paint type coating that can be sprayed on. Anybody tried it, does it work? Which is best?
I heard from many others that the JC Whitney panels are not so hot. zIf you look at the pic in their catalog, you will see screws that attach them to the door frame. Maybe someone found other panels that fit like the originals.
As with almost every JC Whitney product, they don't fit right. The paint idea isn't a good idea either. I have painted interior parts, but it is a PITA, and usually doesn't stick very well.
I have a friend with a 98 F-800, and the cab is identical to my 82 F-x50. The dash and the door panels looked identical to mine, so I think Ford is still making them. You might check with a local dealership to see. They will be more pricey than the JC Whitney ones, but you will be more happy with them.
