Rear brakes - how long until replace?

I have already done my front pads at 35k (they still had some material left), and took at look at the rears at the same time. They were good. I now have 40k on the vehicle and just rotated the tires again and the rears still looked good. Question, how many miles has everyone been getting out of their rear brake pads?.

My rears lasted till 82K and went South quickly when a caliper stuck.
All new now and many trouble free miles ahead.

I have 72000 miles on the original front and rear brakes. They will probably make it to 85000 or so.

I have 48K on the original front and rears. Pads still looked good when the new tires were put on last month.

Mine has 83000 on the rear. The pad is way down in the grooves that hold it. I really can't see how much is left. Is there a wear sensor that squeels when it need replacing?
I would like to pull the wheels off to make sure. Only thing they are so big don't know if I have the strength. Maybe a dentist mirror will help see how much pad is left.
How did you visually check the pad for wear?

Last month I bought new tires on the truck. At the time they were being changed out at the tire store, I had them look and they allowed me as well. Its alot easier when the rims are off the vehicle

Yea, you pretty much need to have the tire/wheel off to see the wear on the pads.
