time to go fishing

Well its warm up here in south dakota so its time to go fishing. I have a old aluminum flatbottomed jon boat that is around 10-12 ft i guess. I have a motorguide trolling motor (around 28 lbs of thrust i believe) and i also have a old depth finder. Well the old john deere battery i had been using is long past is usefullness. Rowing all day long on a windy day in south dakota gets old fast. I want to get a new battery for it but figured i would ask your input first. I was figuring on going with a deep cycle even though the previous battery was just a regular car starting battery. I was planning on going with exide maybe. What do you guys think about that and what is the price difference between car battery and a deep cycle? I want a decent battery at a decent price. thanks for the help guys

i got a new boat in 2000 and it came with "Interstate" deep cycles for the trolling motor. i have used it a good amount over the past 5 years and the batteries would still run my trolling motor(65 lb autopilot) all day (havent had it out yet this year). i am very impressed with the performance and life i have got from these batteries, i thought i would be replaceing them after 3 years

YOu definitely want a deep cycle battery in a situation where there is no power source like an alternator. Deep discharging a car battery is detrimental to the life of the battery.

trolling motors

I have an Argo Conquest (8-wheeler). I use it year round.
summer mode is with a 45 ft-lb auto pilot trolling motor.
a new 1000amr/hr deep cycle battery will give me about
4 hours of continuous trolling.

ok i checked out a few places around here (small town limited selection) and i found dura start deep cycle batteries. 625 mca 180 reserve for 75 and 500 mca 140 reserve for about 40 i believe. Found some exides including a deep cycle gold nautilus and orbital. i believe the gold nautilus was also 625 mca and 180 reserve for 75 also. so anyone have an opinion on which one i should get. Plus what does walmart and kmart carry and would it be better to go with them because i have some friends coming back this weekend and they could pick one up for me if i told them exactly what i wanted? Would a 500 mca be good enough cuz i noticed a fair amount of different in size between the 500 mca and 625 mca dura starts. thanks guys

batteries

Kmart actually has a nice battery department.
the Tournament Stowaway Deep Cycle batteries
are what i'm using in my argo, and in my inverter box
on my truck. with the argo (about 1000lbs) , i'll get 4 hours
of run time with the trolling motor at mid speed.

I've had good luck with Wal-Mart batteries. I've got the Everstart Extrme Deep Cycle. Not sure on how many hours it will troll, but I've used it 3 times in a row without charging and it still had plenty of juice. Granted it's only pushing a 24 lbs thrust trolling motor on a 14 ft Alumnicraft V bottom, but I'm happy with it.

Im goin fishing soon too, except I have a kayak that I go, it is a blast, no one but you on the water in the kayak. I always catch something as the kayak does not make commotion like a motor boat. Have fun fishing is a blast!

So how much of a difference is there between a 625 mca 180 reserve battery and a 500 mca 140 reserve of the same brand? Will the 625 last a lot longer than the 500 cuz there is a good price and size difference. thanks

They are still being made. They're built in Hamburg Ontario, but are sold through private dealers in the States. Lot's of dealers here in Michigan.
this is the Conquest. 10', Kawasaki V-Twin 4-Stroke, Winch, Skidplates,
Full Canopy. Use it for Ice Fishing, Hunting, Trolling. Never put it away.
About 14K$, but i got rid of my boat, snowmobile, & atv.

ok i got a dura start marine deep cycle battery. It was on sale for 37 dollars so sounded like a good deal. the part number is 24dc-3, 500 mca and 140 reserve capacity. How do you figure out the amp/hours of it? It does not say it on the battery anywhere. thanks guys
