I just picked up a ZF 5 speed tranny today cheap. I am going to be swapping it in place of my M5OD soon, but I would like to try to fix this problem first. The pedal does not come all the way up after depressing the clutch pedal. It is a hydraulic clutch and I have bleed it well several times thinking that may be it. I've looked under the dash at the linkage, but it is hard to see anything? Any thoughts or ideas?
Any advice for tackling the tranny swap would also be great. As far as I know it is very straightforward, but nothing ever goes as smoothly as planned.
Thanks

M5OD(soo0n to be ZF)
The clutch pedal connects to a rod that has plastic bushings on both ends of the rod , they often wear , cause the rod to bind a little resulting in problems with the pedal operation . Also there is a spring on the clutch pedal that has plastic rollers , it may be that spring or the rollers are the problem . Also the slave valve itself may be at fault if it has a few miles on it . When you swap in the other trans it wouldnt hurt to replace the slave valve .
Rob, what are you doing with the old M5OD? If you are junking it, I wouldn't mind taking it off your hands. e-mail me: randygaz@mobilecellular.net
As for slave replacement, I think the ZF has the slave on the outside of the tranny so it should be easy to replace if it is bad.
Otherwise, I would go for the plastic bushings, they really can restrict how much fluid pressure you can produce on the pedal by limiting the full range of motion.
