turbo trouble?
i have a 94 f-350 cc with the 7.3 turbo diesel,i just have a quick question,on these 7.3 turbos should you be able to hear the turbo whine when you step on it?or is the turbo real quiet on these?is there an easy way to check the turbo to make sure it is working?.it just seems real gutless,compared to when i bought it last year,i keep up on the regular maintenence on it,so theres no clogged air filters or any other restrictions in it.it has 4"magnaflow stainless exhaust all the way back and the k-n filter setup. thanks

Its really tuff to hear the turbos on the idi engines. With the engine shut down, remove the intake on the turbo and try to wiggle the shaft, up and down and in and out. There should be very little if any movement. It should also spin freely. Have you changed the fuel filter lately ? If they dont get the right amount of fuel they will act lazy and the same with air intake. Get back and let us know what you discover.

Watch that filter like a hawk. Those K&Ns have dusted out many an engine, all in the name of performance. On a turbo'd engine they need frequent cleaning and re-oiling. I've found it's easier and cheaper to just stick with the paper ones.

A boost gauge would let you know exactly what the turbo is doing. I belive there is a plug in the middle of the intake hat bolt that works out well for boost gauge installation
I can not hear the turbo on my factory turbo IDI and I think that's the way its supposed to be. I'd also stay away from K&N filters.
- Might want to check your timing as this can really hurt performance if its too retarded.
