Gains from chipping?

I have a 92 f-150 5.0 with a m50d transmission and was wondering what kind of gains I would get from using a chip, I have dual exhaust with headers and high flow cats as well (if that would matter)... Have thought about chipping it for quite some time, but want to know the gains.

I have a 93 with a a4ld and the cali. legal hyperchip..it has/had a bit of a gain in the midrange at WOT,but it demands 91 or it pings in the upper range 3500ish and up at WOT.and I lost 1 mile per gallon. I bought the truck with it installed and have pulled it,mostly due to gas prices and 12mpg.

I drove the truck with the chip for the first 2000 miles, and have driven about 800 with out. I cant say that i miss the chip. But there are better chips out compared to what I have/had

If you install a chip, you need the computer re-mapped to make it perform. No vehical automattically starts performing better with a simple chip install. You can also have the factory chip re-mapped a bit to change shift points in the trans to suit your driving style. It really depends on what you're looking for in terms of gains.
