I've got a 05' 250 CC KR 4x4 PSD with Continental tires (18"). Everytime I get out of the truck and touch the door to close it, I get shocked. I'm thinking it's probably the tires. I've got leather seats and it even happens when I'm wearing shorts, so it can't be static build-up from sliding in/out on the seat. Is there anything I can do to stop this without replacing the tires?
ive got a 99 f250 with 38's and i get zapped every single time i get out of it. to tell the truth ive gotten used to the annoying little shock but never the less i still get shocked. im not sure what causes it but i have cloth seats, and it does not matter what clothes im wearing. i just live with it because i love my truck!
Ive lived with this as well. Try grounding yourself as munkey suggested, this should do it, I do it and it has worked for me.
Whats worse though is at the auto shows, walking around on carpet and then touching door handles. Ive accepted the fact that when I go Im gonna get shocked a hundred times that day, still sucks though.
I read sometime ago that this problem started when all the manufacturers went to "low-rolling-resistance" tires. It does seem to vary from vehicle to vehicle, and different tires wil shock more than others. Ground the truck (straps) or yourself, that's about all you can do.
I too have a new 05' 250 CC KR 4x4 PSD with Continental tires (18") and get shocked. I have noticed that it might be the king ranch leather especially on top of the center console. My arm hair is attracted and stactic occurs. I tell you it sucks. I will try the grounding to my body thing.
Yeah, I'm not sure it's the interior at all. My old Expy did it (leather), my F250 does it (cloth) and now my wifes new (unmentionable with cloth) does it too.
Tires, humidity, my electric personality... who knows. At least the arc has my favorite color blue in it.
Are you referring to the old fashioned straps that hang down from the rear touching the road? I call them old fashioned because I haven't seen any for a long time.
You can still buy those static straps at your local NAPA store. I'm thinking about installing some myself because my King Ranch zaps me on a regular basis. My older Chevrolet with cloth interior would get me every time also but spraying static guard laundry spray in the truck would REALLY help but I can't/won't spray it on my leather seats in this truck.
I have this problem as well, getting out of my SD I generate enough electricity to jump start a battleship. Tried the static ground from NAPA didn't do anything, also tried 3 different seat covers - nothin changed. But I discovered a trick that works well. When you open the door put your hand on a metal part of the door before you touch the ground and keep your hand on it till your feet touch the ground. This will dissipate the static and you won't feel a thing. Once you make a habit of it, it's fairly easy to do.
Has anyone thought about using antistatic spray for carpet and upholstry?? Not sure about the leather ... try it in an inconspicuous area first. If the carpet is sprayed, that might get rid of the worst of it.
have you noticed the zapping with different footware or does it matter I notice I get zapped when wearing my sneakers, however when i wear my work boots it does not happen. I seem to remember that you can get something to go on your keys to eliminate zapping not sure how but it might be worth checking into..
