I Have 71 460 Lincoln Engine With A C6.the Engine Was A Long Block I Picked Up At Auto Zoneand It Has Roghly 20,000 Miles On It. Recently I Picked Up Afairly Loud Ticking/knocking Sound From What Sounds Like Its Under The Intake Manifold.i'm Was Thinking Lifter But,i Leaning Towards The Tranny Now.oil Pressure Is Great About 40 Psi At Idle. Ran Compression Test And Found All Cylinders Within 6 Psi Of Each Other.the Knocking Comes Cold Or Hot With Pressure On The Engine, Usually Starts Between 1400 And 1800 Rpm,but Not In Neutral Or Drive Below 1400.the Tranny Is Old,i Put At Least 50,000 On It And Who Knows How Many Before I Bought The Truck.lately,i Can Feel It Slipping In 2nd Gear But Not Sure If One Will Knock Like This On Its Way Out.any Ideas Or Suggestions Would Be Greatly Appreciated.

As much as I hate to say this it sounds like a possible rod/bearing knocking. I would pull the valve covers and make sure all the rockers are set right/correct torque and check to make sure they are all getting oil. Lifter could go bad, right? If they are all getting oil, traveling correctly and adjusted, then you gotta go deaper, rod bearing or something. Cheapest to check valves and rockers first.
