i have a 1986 ford f250 supercab with a 351w 4 barrell. the truck runs great at idle, but as soon as i shift into any gear the truck loses power and sputters when driven down the road. the plugs get fouled after just a few mnutes and i see oil all over the dipstick tube. as the truck heats up i cant start it after i shut it down, not until it sits for a few hrs will it restart. the truck also seems to backfire as it heats up and runs rougher. when i clean up the plugs it runs good for a few minutes and thenm it starts all over again. it smells real rich and blws brown smoke from the exhaust as it runs crappier. any help /thoughts would be greatly prreciated. i jsut sunk a good amount into the brakes, flywheel. e brake smog pump etc etc. thanks joel
Heat is an indication of something. I'd try a known good spark control module(Likely suspect) and test your coil with an ohm meter. Those would be two good places to start.
Oil all over the dipstick tube is an indication of blow-by(could be anything from poor compression to a plugged pcv valve).
A pcv valve is cheap, and they should be replaced once in a while anyways. Start with those three items, post back. We'll get it narrowed down.
