Unhappy Power Drain

Okay guys I am having some serious issue with my 1984 ford Bronco II. I have been having electircal problems this whole last week. the problem is that my battery keeps draining till its dead. I have installed a new Alternator and a new battery, but if I jump the Truck and and run if for a while the battery charges right back up like normal. It is only when I leave it overnight does the battery drain down completly, to the point where there is nothing in it. Now my lights are not on or anything. The power has to be sucked from some where, but I cannot for the life of me think where. There is only one electircal problem I know in my truck, besides this new one, and that is that my new cd deck just stopped working one day. I looked at the wires behind the deck and the reason it isnt working is because the power wire wasnt completly crimped in. Now with this little power whire not plugged in I doubt that my trucks battery would drain because its not plugged in. While I think I have described my problem as best as possible. Any Help would be awsome, I am out of ideas.

Thank You, Its has the 2.8 with the C5 Auto

You could check this by removing a battery terminal and placing an ammeter in series (unless you're lucky enough to have a sensitive, inductive ammeter). This will show you the actual current draning off the battery. I would imagine this should be below 10 mA. Now you could start pulling fuses and see whether any of them makes a big difference. If so, then that's the circuit that's pulling the current.

It's worth noting that radios that have remote controls draw a fair amount of power even when turned off. The only way to stop them draining the battery is to remove the face plate when not in use.

I hope this helps.

Hey Guys I fixed the Problem, They gave me a bad alternator and my voltage regulator was shot, that fixed my problem it seems. I havent had the problem anymore, so im sure its fixed. My 84 has never run better now, its smooth and has more power than it ever did before. I love this little truck, its a trooper, now I got to figure how to get my 84 to get better Mpg, I think im only getting like around 15/16.

Good show. A shot alternator will drain the battery in short order, but only when the vehicle is running. A drain from, e.g., a remote-operated radio, will drain the battery when the vehicle's sitting. That's a critical distinction.
