'99 EXP rear caliper question
I have a '99 Expedition and the rear brakes are gone along with one of the rotors. Haven't gotten that rotor off yet either. On the passenger side, the whole back of the rotor 'housing' is caked with grim. Wet grime. I'm assuming it's brake fluid. It looks like something was leaking from the caliper for a while. Would that caliper leak from the piston area? I can't see any leaking anywhere else on the caliper that it would have been leaking, including the bleeder valve.
The rotor on this side came right off by itself due to the constant 'oiling'.
Change the caliper?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "rotor housing", but I doubt it's the caliper that's leaking. If it was you'd see brake fluid on the back side of the brake pad and all over the caliper itself. More than likely what is leaking is your axle seal, allowing gear oil from the rear end to seep out. They seem to go out rather regularly on these. My passenger side one was leaking when I did my brakes about a month ago.
Apparently they aren't that easy to change. I don't know, cause I haven't done mine yet.
