new trailer plug-'99

Hello,

I need to replace the four prong trailer plug on my '99 ranger again. It's a little bit special in that the end slides nicely onto a metal bracket on the truck. I really like this feature and would like to replace it with oem parts. The problem is that the stupid thing is like $50 or $60 from Ford. If I remember correctly, last time they sold me a $30 plug for an Explorer(?) that fit my Ranger. I wouldn't mind paying $30 again, but much more than that is a rip!

Questions:

Any other places to buy this?
Is the Explorer the correct vehicle for a direct swap?
Does onyone know part #'s so I can search online.

TIA, Jim

Not sure exactly what you mean. The rectangle plug has a metal bracket on the bumper or something, that the plug slides into. Are you looking for the bracket, or the plug that slides into it? I'm sure a uhaul store or autoparts store would have something similar that would work.. If not, ask for a discount at the Ford parts dep, it's worth a shot...?

I think he's talking about the original plug thats part of the stock wiring harness, it has a tab that hold it to the bumper.

I'm not sure if I can help or not. I have a kit that came with my '99 Ranger. It is labeled as XL54-15A416-AB W/A kit. It contains an L bracket (with bolt) which holds a black 4- wire connector (green,yellow,blk/wht, white) with an attached rubber cap. The cable to the connector is about 2' long with with a round gray connector (approx 3/4") at the other end. If this is what you are looking for, you are welcome to it
