Question no oil pressure

I have a 91 F-150 5.0 4X4 . I was driveing home the other day and noticed my oil pressure needle was burried , I stopped and checked oil ect. everything was fine . I made it the rest of the way home and didn't hear any knocking or any excessive noise , it seemed to run normal . A friend at work told me it might be a oil sending unit ? I dont know . I looked for it in a shop manual didn't find it . Can anyone please help ? location , pics , any kind of test or experince .
Thanks, jason (Click Here to find out why email addresses are removed from posts.)

I Have The 1996 F150 Thats Giving Me Fits Right Now.. See My Post "help 1996 F150 Wont Stay Running" My Sender Is On The Drivers Side Of The Engine Just In Front Of The Exh Manifold. It Screws Directly Into The Block. It Has One Elect Post Straight Out The Middle Of It. It Has A Little Plastic Cover On It That Just Slips Off. Pulling Of Cover Makes It Easier To Remove. Will Need A 7/8 Or 15/16 12 Point Deep Socket To Get It Out I Changed Mine A Few Weeks Back It Was Leaking Cant Remember The Socket Size.

Lightbulb no oil pressure

Hello Jday! just became a member today!. I'm a ford tech and I can tell you that your oil sender is located on the driver side front of your motor on the lower side usually behind some bracketry. It will be a single wire sender. The first thing you want to do is disconnect the wire and with koeo(key on engine off),check you guage (hope you have a guage!) The guage should read flat or zero. Next ground that wire directly to your batt negative. That should peg the guage at full on and beyond the normal parenthesis. If the guage responds correctly to this test your guage and circuitry to the instrument cluster is good. If the guage is good you will need to perform a "wet test". remove the sender and install an oil or tranny fuid guage and start the motor to take an actual pressure reading. I cant recll the specs but should be lets say no lower than 30psi. and would increase with rpms. If all that is good your sender is no good. If you have low guage readings and low wet test readings, especially with upper end noise(oil not reaching lifters) the most likely cause would be a clogged pick up tube/and or oil pump problem. Most likely the pick up tube however. good luck and e-mail me with any more questions .gmentum

I think I have a good picture in my gallery of it. I doctored it and have an arrow pointing to it This was from when I was trying to figure out where it was.

I have since replaced it with a true mechanical oil pressure gauge, of which I installed last weekend. I took pictures of it, and can post them on here if you want

mechanical oil gauges are really cheap

A grounded oil pressure sense wire will cause the guage to read mid-scale, between the "R" and the "M" in "NORMAL". It will not be pegged on full scale like it would with a "real" oil pressure sender. This is because of the 20 ohm resistor in the instrument panel.
