How to Wash a Nylon Tent

Does anybody know how to wash a 100% nylon camping tent in a washing machine? I dont know what nylon tents can and cant tolerate in tems of detergents and water temperature. Please help I just paid 15 bucks to rent a campsite for tonight and I would like to get my tent clean before sundown so I can pitch it up in the daylight.
Thanks, Drew

I don't think I'd do it. I always set ours up in the garage and clean it with a damp cloth (light soap water).

Tent Cleaning 101.

Do not put tent in washing machine. It can cause untold trauma to tent.

Place tent in bathtub with a squirt or two of dish soap or woolite. (Something gentle and non-abrasive.)
Add luke warm water.
Swish tent around and up and down.
Rinse throughly.
Place in large towel and gently wring out.
Hang over shower rod or outside on clothes line or fence.

You may need to re-weather proof seams and such.
Good Luck and have fun camping.

Well time was running out and I went ahead and put it in the washing machine because I need it before dark and I was too busy packing up my house because we're moving. It went just fine from what I can see. I set it on gentle wash with cold water and I used woolite as my detergent. Immediately after it finished in the washer, I took it outside and set it up in the sun and it dried completely in about 2 or 3 minutes. Then I sprayed on a little waterproofer over the seams and I guess I'm ready to go - I just hope it wont be holding any surprises for me tonight as payback for putting it in the washing machine. Thanks for the advice I probably should have thought about washing it long before the day I decided to go.

Drew

Hmmm, I'm surprised you put it in the washer, let us know if it hurt it any in the long run or in the middle of the night when started raining. I always heard that was bad for the tent, we just sprayed ours with the hose and resealed the seams with that spray stuff. What kind of tent do you have? I need to upgrade from my wally world special.
