My next door neighbor has a 97 F-150 pickup with the 4.6L engine and standard transmission. His original engine broke a piston and he has purchased a crate engine from TDK engines and installed it. After driving the truck for about 100 miles he has developed a nasty knock toward the front of the engine. The engine does not seem to be missing, but the knock sounds very nasty and serious. He changed the starter yesterday thinking that may have bee a problem, but now the truck only tunrs over for approximately 5 revolutions and then stops rotating. If he waits about 45 seconds, he can repeat the process and the engine does the same thing.
He took the plugs out this morning to try and reprime the oil pump in the hopes that might be the cause of his problems with the noise, but now the truck will not start at all. He also pulled the fuel delivery fuse from the panel under the hood to ensure the engine would not start while he tried to prime the oil pump.
I know the starter is not the source of these problems but am wondering what might be causing this knock and now the inability to start the engine altogether. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I have never seen a case like this with a new crate engine. I'm wondering if there is a crank or cam position sensor that might be causing this issue, or at least part of the problems..any and all help is greatly appreciated!
well was the engine a rebuilt if so bad idea these engines have almost no material left to re bore them or re grind and it sounds like it threw a rod into the cylinder wall because now it is frozen.
