I successfully changed the tranny fluid and filter in the club wgn. I was surprised how clean everything looked when I got the pan dropped, there was only minimal "grit" at the bottom. I was also surprised that no type of soft gasket material was used when the po had it changed. The gaskit that came with the filter in the kit was some type of sturdy rubber, so after cleaning the pan surface real good, I seated the gasket on without any gasket material. So far, no runs, leaks or errors!!
I also went to replace the throttle position sensor, but found out it is almost impossible to get to!! It is located at the bottom of the throttle body and is secured by two screws that I'm gonna have to find some type of flexible driver to remove it and then unplug the other end.
Hopefully if I can get this done it will clear up the check engine condition and the hard shifting.
Verify the Tps is the problem before you buy a new one & go thru the work of changing it. Ford has great Quick & Pinpoint Test procedures . You can purchase an Engine / Emissions Diagnosis manual from Helm . It will walk you thru any driveability problem & outline the test procedures in detail .
Paul, thanks for the info. I have ran the codes and I am getting a 121, which according to the Haynes manual and the scanner book(actron code scanner CP9105) the TPS voltage is higher or lower than expected. I stuck my head in a local Ford dealer and carefully asked him how they would get at the TPS, and about what it would cost to have Ford do it. He told me that they lift the whole throttle bottle accomplish this!! He also said that the part cost $68.00(when I called on Friday to get the price the parts guy quoted me $57.00!!!) and that the bill would run about $177.00! Of course, and I do understand that repair would not be garunteed, they would just be replacing a part that I said needed replaced, and since I wasn't going to spend the $70.00 additional bucks for them to run the codes...... what a racket!!!
Well, I'm hoping to find a tool that is flexible enough to get in there and remove the two screws myself!!!????
