geezzz where do i start?....ok, i have a 92 f150 s\c s\b 4x4 xlt that i got from a friend for next to nothing. the prob started when he had it, what would happen was that the engine would run rough and dump so much fuel into the oil that compression was lost then a no go. just didnt seem to want to burn the fuel so last fall i gave it an oil change primed the cyl. w\ oil (with fuel relay pulled) and got it going again, but in no time at all and i`m talking only minutes the engine is flooded out again and the oil pan is full of gas.
there is a new tank, pump, filter , lines, regulator and the system has been checked and seems fine. comp is around 120 so we can eliminate wash out, timing is dead on, but now checking spark, i have 8 volts coming out of the coil and 3-4 volts coming out of the distributor at the cap.
this is the first attempted start of the year but the engine right now wont even start with starting fluid, but does fire a bit . i did pull the fuel relay when i primed the cyl with oil again so i could get the comp up before it flooded again. any thoughts would be app.
thanx
Have you ever pulled any codes out of it to see if there is a computer fault that is causing this. I would start there and with the ignition. You can get a ignition module checked at most autoparts stores. Good luck.
well, it started. i managed to pull the code out did koeo and got 33, 133. with the koer test no codes came up. i took it on a run for a couple blocks and it really suckholes, when i stomped on it u can hear it open up but it just dont respond when under load. when idling in park there is no prob with the throttle response revs up fast and quick. there is some light grey smoke when i stomp on it though. the oil is dirty already and thin with fuel but not too bad.
i guess there is no code 133... but 33 says egr. last fall i took off the egr because it was stuck. a bud of mine sandblasted it and it opened and closed and held pressure fine after that. could it be the egr sensor?
On my 92 f-150 the codes three digit codes. I don't see a code 133 either, maybe try re-testing the truck. Being as it will be cold you will most likely get a temp and possibly a O2 sensor code. If the KOEO (key on engine off) flashes out code 111 then wait a few seconds you should get another flash(maybe just one) which is a seperator code, then it will flash out the continues memory codes. Try looking for sets of three numbers instead of sets of two. Just an idea, good luck.
That's KOEO test passes (with E4OD), followed by separator pulse, followed by "No continuous memory codes (with E4OD)". Looks sort of like "33" and "133" but is actually just the pass codes.
My guess is that your ignition system is flaky. Bad TFI module, pickup coil, grounding, ignition coil, or primary wiring. The drowning in raw fuel/no power under load would be a consequence of weak or intermittant spark.
Three diagnostic tests you should do:
Measure the fuel pressure. Is it correct KOEO? Or too high? How fast does it bleed down? It should hold within 5 PSI of the KOEO pressure for 30 seconds.
Hook up a timing light. Monitor for spark quality. Does it look like there are obvious missing flashes? Try connecting to the coil wire instead of #1 spark plug to help in detecting this.
Get a $4.00 test light. Connect it to ground, and probe the negative side of the coil primary. KOEO, the light should be lit. If it is dark, check the ignition feed. Crank the engine and watch for the light to flash. If it does not flash, or pulses are lost, the TFI or pickup coil is suspect.
fefarms, my original thought was also possibly ignition too, i did a general test of the ignition as described in the chilton manual but everything seems to be in range (voltage resistance ect). a mechanic down the street seems to think that there possibly might be a vaccum leak on the intake man. also may be the prob of dumping fuel. so he says(?)
i did have to pull the spout to get it started at first, but it starts fine now, runs very smooth idling just dumps fuel under load,
now i just took it for a run and for some strange reason the thing ran perfectly fine, no smoke, no hesitation, good throttle response, strange, we`ll see if it happens again
