I have a 97 F-150 5.4L 4x4.When i start it up the oil gauge is reading fine. After about 30 to 45 seconds it drops and oil light comes on.I just changed the oil and filter hoping that would help but the same thing.Any help would be great. Is it possibly the oil pump?
Is it noisy? Tapping or ticking? If not, wiggle the wires and tap the sender unit while someone watches the gauge, or hook a meter to it. The sender may be defective. Otherwise, like it was said before, hook a mechanical gauge up where the sender is.
If it starts ticking when it drops, then you've got an honest to goodness pressure problem and not an indication problem. I'll defer that to someone with more experience with the mod motors. I haven't had the bottom end of one of these apart yet, nor do I really plan to. One of those guys will be along soon.
