vaccuum leak ??
So, go to Warn's and only use the switch for the transfer case ? Do I dosconnect the lines going to the wheels or just plug them ?? Which color does the hubs and which the "doors" for the AC, defroster and heater ?
Thanks
Well, you know you've got a vacuum leak. Lets check some things before you order the Warns.
First take a look at the vacuum hoses that go to the fittings on the back of each of the hubs. I found that one of mine had split at the fitting. I've got a 2000 F350. If they look ok.....open the hood and go over to the passenger side fender and look straight down just behind the battery. You'll see the starter relay....and just to the right of that, you'll see a kind of off-white or cream colored rectangular device. That's what Ford calls a "pulse vacuum hub lock solenoid". Just below the solenoid....you'll see the vacuum tank bolted to the top of the fender well. And finally.....if you look to the left of the tank.....you'll see the vacuum pump. That's the whole vacuum system. If you trace the lines a little, you will see one going through the firewall into the cab....for climate control. You could have a break or leak in any of these lines or connections. But, as I said..the entire system is right there....so it should be easy to find the problem. If you can't find anything wrong with the system components....then it's time to check the o-rings in the hubs. This can be done with a small vacuum source tee'd with a vacuum gauge. Pull a vacuum....shut off the vacuum source....see if the gauge drops. If it does...then it's either the o-ring in the back of the hub, or the o-ring on the locking hub.
I do agree that changing to the Warn Premiums is a good move....if you have to. To answer your question about vacuum hoses at the hub. I'd leave them installed at the hubs and then plug them at the solenoid. This will keep water and dirt out of the hubs. Hope this helps you.
