I am in the prosses of repairing a express bed for my f-3. the rust is repaired and before I weld the rear pocket back on I noticed something is not right. A friend gave me a set of hinges from a 56 f100, and the holes in the pocket do not line up. the D/carp catalogue shows that the hinges are the same from 42-1972. I have the bed with the raised pannel sides.
Any help would be apreciated.
All my parts books show basically the same thing, part number 8C 83043018 as the hinge for all models. I pulled apart a 51 F-2 with the express box and it had solid cast hinges. All the F-1's (48-52) I've parted had the metal rolled hollow hinges. Is the pocket you are welding on, is it a new one or the original being put back on? How does this later hinge compare to the other side? GM trucks from this period used a hinge that looked just like the Ford one. Just a few things to consider.....
