1) is this a decent manifold?
2) will it fit later model (68-up) motors?
3) will a carter AFB carb bolt on without any problem?
4) is this the same manifold as on the 390 from a F100?
All the stock steel intakes are pretty much the same. Most are not too performance oriented. The one difference you might find is it may/may not have oil filler tube.
All square flange carbs will work(all holes the same size-not like a quadrajet). If you looking just to be able to put a 4bbl on an FE, it should be fine. If you are looking for some performance, then the aftermarket is a better choice.
actually, I have a friend wanting to sell a 4 bbl mani with motorcraft carb for $50 and was wondering if it is worth it? I have a spare 390 I have been considering a rebuild and swap into my '68 F100 (presently with a fresh complete rebuild and mild cam 360) this way I could keep my Edelbrock intake for use on the 390 and a 750 holly, and put the iron 4bbl on the 360 with the Carter 650 from my truck. I know from experience that extra 100 cfm REALLY puts the kick in the pants.
so what do you think, is it worth it? or should I save my $$ and just put the stock 2bbl back on the 360 to sell?
I'm NOT a big fan of those Autolite carbs, especially if it's pretty used. If you're just selling the motor, put the 2bbl back on and let it go. Not sure if the $50 will get you more back when selling?? Guess it depends on who gets it.
If it's the original 64 intake it's a lowriser. All the early 2x4 and 3x2's were lowrisers beside the early 1x4. I agree it's not the best but will funtion as intended. $25-50 is the average price for the intake. Most guys will want the aluminum ones for restoring Galaxies and such. The lowriser ports are longer than the medium risers (mid 65 and up) and will hang down under the head ports. Not the best combo but it will work fine on the 360. G.
thanks guys, I have decided it won't be worth it to get the mani. I'll just save my dough and get a new A/C compressor so I can drive my truck in the summer time, here in Oklahoma (very hot/humid)
