I got an problem don't know what to do please help
I have an 1984 F-250 HD 4x4 that is fairly rusted out. I bought an 1985 F-150 2WD and thaught of swapping cabs and bed. I have an 460 in the 1984 and an 351w in the 1985, thaught of swapping the engines because of better mileage the 351 could give me. the 1984 has a 3.54 gearing. Both have auto trannys. 460 is a C6 the other is a c4 that had been rebuilt. Any ideas on what to do.
I would swap axles, transfer case, etc into the good one and go with it. Love the 460, but the 351 HO was a good engine, lots of pep. Mileage probably won't change for either, maybe 1 or 2 mpg at best if they are running the same gears (I would expect -0- change in mpg).
Good luck, the axle swap would be the quicker and simpler project. You would need to change to a SB 4*4 tranny to hook it up to the transfer case, but that would be the biggest issue.
