High Altitude Performance

I own a stock 1999 F150 4x4 with auto trans and the 5.4L. I live in Wyoming at 5000 ft. I am looking to modify this truck and have always gone with the air in air out theory. This is easy to accomplish cause WY has no inspections so cats are routinely removed. The 99s have more computer sensors though. Are there chips, computer reprograming or other mods that will provide that performance at this altitude without rebuilding?

It's the sensors that allow the truck to perform at a higher level at higher altitudes. Your best bet is to leave the stock sensors and go with a performance programmer. The air in air out theory is good, but the head flow path is the limiting factor. To prevent a rebuild or going to turbos/superchargers... try to keep the stock sensors in place, add bolt ons like intake, throttlebody, headers, and true dual exhausts w/ a crossover, then reprogram... you may need to play with the tuner a bit. More than likely you won't gain a significant amount of power unless you go with something that forces the air in, though.
