I don't know if readings apply for all models and wires. But, for what it is worth, my factory shop manual says to measure resistance thru the cap (i.e., remove cap and measure from inside terminals); if resistance exceeds 5,000 ohms per inch, remove wire and test wire alone. If it still exceeds 5,000 per inch, replace wire. It cautions to make sure ignition is OFF.
It also states: Do not under any circumstances, puncture an ignition cable when checking resistance. Do not use a commercial probing device, but measure resistance only from the ends of the wire or the wire terminals inside the distributor cap.
Good luck.
