300-6 will not start

Have an 88 150 300 with 5 speed (with 180,000+ miles) was slow starting, turned over ok just seemed like it lacked fuel, also ran ok except under load, today it will not start, has fire at the plugs, seems to have fuel pressure (testby disconnecting at filter) any suggestions?

Hello,
Assuming you are EFI... Have you tried pulling any codes yet?
If you don't know how you can visit fordfuelinjection.com and learn how to do it using a paperclip or go to the parts store and grab a ford odb1 code reader for around $30.

How did you check for spark? What color was the spark?

You'll need to check the fuel pressure at the rail, should be around 55 pounds for the 300 I beleive. I don't know if the I6's used the two fuel pumps (1 low in the tank, 1 high pressure on the frame) like the V8's did but I don't think Ford would have a special line just to accomodate the 1 engine so I suspect you have 2 pumps and possibly the high pressure one is kaput. You might be able to borrow/rent a fuel pressure tester from your local parts store. Will it kick over if you spray starting fluid into the throttle body while cranking, if it does then the problem is in your fuel system for sure.

Keep us posted,
Popa Tim

300-6

Will not "hit" when fuel sprayed in intake (is EFI) pressure at rail, over 50 psi codes 67 and 95, 67 may be from using remote starter switch while spraying in to intake. spark was tested by hooking no1 spark plug wire to a spark plug that was grounded. 95 may be from using fuel pump test terminal to activate pump. I cut my teeth on a 144 from a 64 falcon so efi troubleshooting is new to me, thanks

Code 95 is with the engine running:
Fuel pump: open, bad ground or always on - Power / Fuel Pump Circuits
In memery code 95 engine not running:
Possible bad fuel pump ground or open between fuel pump and pin 8 at PCM (Fuel Pump Monitor signal) - Power / Fuel Pump Circuits

Does it run on the other fuel tank, whats the fuel pressure, does it drop fast?

I'll recheck pressure, if it drops fast, will that show it needs a pump? also no changes when switched to other tank. Is it correct to test the pump by grounding at test plug?

On my 87 f150 the fuel pressure dropped fast on my front tank only, so i needed a new front intank pump in my front tank.
