In these times of high fuel prices and low wages, I need an overdrive transmission. My '88 F250 has a 7.3 with a C6 and 3.55 rear gear. Not good for fuel mileage at the crusing speed of 70-75 mph on the interstate. So, I am wondering how difficult it would be to swap in an E4OD?
It would be cheaper and leave you with a stronger trans if you were to swap in a ZF 5-speed. The E4OD is very costly to rebuild and you really have to take care of them if you want it to last. Plus the E4OD will need the computer to control the trans where as the ZF would not.
The cross member will have to be relocated for either trans swap and drive shaft or shaft lengths will have to be adjusted.
