power mirrors

HELP!

My power mirrors are "sticking" when I try to activate them. One of them won't move at all and the other only moves in one direction.

Any ideas?

Welcome to FTE!

The power mirror switch connection might be dirty or loose. You can pry out the power window/lock/mirror assembly from the arm rest and check out the connection.

For the switch, I removed mine on my 1999 and cleaned it with rubbing alchol. Let it dry and it worked fine. As far as the mirrors, check on E-Bay.

Once you pull the switch and removed the connector, just clean it out really good and re-connect everything. Sometimes its tough to see if you are making a good connection or not.

I will try cleaning the terminals again. I pulled the switch out and cleaned the terminals and I still can't get them to work. I checked the fuse and it is fine. I'm still thinking that the problem must be in the switch as I can't hear the motor activating when I try to move the mirrors. Thanks again for the advice guys!

Try squirting WD40 in behind the mirror glass. If they free up use them for a while then relube. Check Continuity thru thew switch before you reinstall.
Good luck.
Furrby,

How do you get the switch out? I tried prying it up but it resists and am afraid of breaking off part underneath....
Thanks, Goudey

Understandable, however it should pop up with firm even pressure.

You don't pry out just the switch, you pry out the whole power window/lock/mirrior switch assembly. Tape up the tip of a flat screwdriver and carefully pop it out.

What TRITON said......I took mine apart last night and it was much easier to just pull up on the front of the whole panel that the switches are mounted to then flip it over and you will see the release clips for the mirror switch. I took my switch apart and cleaned it, although there really wasn't anything in there. Then when I re-assembled it, now it works in all directions, except for the up and down operate both mirrors at the same time. The side to side is fine though. I'm thinking of just replacing the switch.

Thanks for the help guys! I got mine out and tried to check it out for continuity but decided to replace the switch. New switch got the right mirror ok;up, down, left and right. The left mirror now moves left and right but no up and down!!?? Tried WD-40 behind it and moving it by hand to see if I could free it up.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Goud
