What's causing this whining Noise
Hi all this is my 1st post on this forum
I have a 2001 F150 extended cab flareside 5.4L with auto trans. 4WD. Manual 4wd shifter over the Transfer case. For the last 5K miles, I have been hearing this whining noise.
It is coming from the transfer case as I can actualy feel the noise when I touch the shifter. Sometimes it will go away if I fiddle with the shifter sometimes not.
anyone have any ideas on this. It is annoying.

Hi and welcome to FTE 
Have you checked the oil in the transfer case? There is a square plug on the back of it, about 1/2 way up. You need a 3/8" drive ratchet and extension to remove it. The oil should be bright red. It uses Mercon transmission fluid.
