Well,
It is a well known fact that everyone at some point during their life gets 15 minutes of FAME.
I have been fortunate to have had many of these times.
But, I would like to hear of your experience of being in the limelight before the public or media.
Let's hear from you ,even the people who are somewhat introverted.
What has happened to make you Famous to people ?

If The Girls Don't Find You Handsome,
They Should At Least Find You Handy!
One of them.
About 5 years ago I was commended for taking it upon myself walking (with my wife driving the car),to herd a group of 5 young deer that were obviously lost and confused by being in an Urban area of our city.
I had walked along and prevented them from going on to very busy roads ,taking them through alley ways, through small playgrounds, across a major traffic route that runs out of downtown, down a median, through some more bushed areas to finally a golf course that was probably the place they had entered the city.
This whole ordeal took about 1 1/2 Hours.
Apparently the police, the fire department, the fish & wildlife departments were all notified of what was going on.
But rather than interfere, they all watched me do this on my own (with of course my wife's help of driving along to pick me up when I was done) since I was doing an OKay job .
The Mayor, the police chief ,fish & wildlife, blah, blah, blah
all commended me on my concern for these *Poor Deers* ( my wife's name for them).
The newspapers did a story, I was quite embarrassed by it all,as I was doing what came naturally in trying to help some deer get back to their natural environment.
I really didn't want attention over this.
I tell you I felt great when it was all over.
I did one little thing to help some scared animal and it all came together without a tragic end.
My wife Michelle was the first one on the phone to tell relatives,

If The Girls Don't Find You Handsome,
They Should At Least Find You Handy!
-Here is an example of that last, although it's a bit 'dark':
METROPOLIS

"Dark shadows thrown, down the alleys
A youngster there is walking alone
Even as the street-lights fail
He walks the darkened pathway home
Around the lad, the city mutters
In fear most people lock their doors
He treads between the iron gutters
Amid glances from the corner *****'s
Down the way some shots are fired
Sirens wail from far away
But he pays no heed, for he is tired
Going home at end of day
With all the faults that cities keep
And all the traffic - all the hurry
In a few blocks he can sleep
And in his dreams find all things "Smurfy"
And in the morning rise once more
Put on his work clothes
Find the door
Whilst round about, tragedy goes on
Mothers weeping, children cry
'Tween stacks of walls he'll miss the dawn
And never even wonder why
And so he goes, 'til he retires
Never questioning the ash-can fires
That warm the ones less fortunate than he
Who gave up wondering what could be..."

I normally write in a much more cheerful venue, but I was talking to someone tonight that made me think in this direction. I have a half acre in the country in the south, cities bug me on a level very deep inside. I guess they are not for me...
But yeah, I have always been able to express myself to a degree and depth most think is something special-
But to me, it's just me

I wrote it on the spot, about half an hour ago.
I believe that if a poem works, it comes from the heart right then and there. So I write them that way, and seldom look back...
This time I looked at it, and realised the title was missing. So I gave it one. A generic one.
I think the same is true in many big towns, that we forget about the wrongs done around us everyday mostly because life itself seems so hard....
But then again, where DO real life heroes come from?
So it was worth the writing...

wow, didnt realize how old this thread was.. but what the heck I'll add this anyway. Should've known from having grey on it.
since I am here my 15min has been I have been in the paper several times some good some not (mostly good though) and had my picture in the local paper a couple of years ago for winning a season points trophy in the local mud drags.
my brush with fame was I was sitting on the bow of the uss Missouri when they filmed it in officer, and a gentleman back in the early 80s I worked at a motorcycle shop about 3 blocks from there, and used to go to the ship when it was open to the puplic to eat my lunch. (this was also when it was still mothballed in Bremerton WA.) didn't even know what they were filming until I seen the movie about 3 yrs later on video.
Two other instances stand out in my memory though, and these are related to saving the lives of two dofferent animals.
1. Had a stray cat in the neighborhood. He'd been around for years. Scruffy, long haired, avoided everyone. One nite I came home and whipped around the corner and there he sat ... right in the middle of the road ... as if to say, Run over me! Well, I pulled into my driveway instead. I got out of the truck, turned and looked at the cat, who was looking at me in a rather disgusted manner. I said, " AAre you hungry?" He said "Meow". I said "Get on over here then!" And he came a running. I went in and got some cat food and brought it out to him. As he was chowing down, I discovered that he only had three useable legs. His right front was atrophied to his chest, but hanging a little limp. Upon closer inspection, I saw that the hide was torn open, the meat was like jerky, but infected .... badly. Well, I was out of work, broke and only $$ I was expecting was my tax return. I called the vet anyway. Took him in... the whole shoulder and right arm was removed. Took him back home a few days later, put him in the shed and fed him mass quantities of the cheapest cat food I could find. Once he escaped from the shed he was free again. He hung around for several years ... the **** of the walk. He finally caught feline leukemia and had to be put down. Pretty cool cat though.
2nd animal story.
I was headed out to my brothers land along the river. As I was crossing the bridge, there were a group of people trying to coax a dog out of the river. He had fallen through the ice and couldn't get out. The ice was too thin to crawl on. I asked how long he'd been there and they said about a half hour. I said keep him hanging on, I'll be right back. Sped home, got my canoe ( no paddles ) and zoomed back there. We lowered the canoe over the bank & I junped in, crawled to the front and using my hands to drag me, made it over to the dog, who was just about ehxausted. I hoisted him up onto the ice as they were calling him. He just about fell through again, but they finally got him over to shore. As they were loving him up and warming him, I loaded my canoe and silently headed off, taking the canoe back home. Never heard a word from them.....until .... Christmas morning, I opened my door and there on the steps was a small plate of cookies and a card with a picture of that dog on it. Inside it simply said...thanks for saving my life. They must have called my plate in and found where I lived. Made me feel kinda good all over again.

My wife's been on TV a few times here because of her Special-Ed work, and I've seen glimpses of two of the kids on the 6:00 news for various school projects. So far, I've managed to be invisible.
At a Scout Camporee a few years ago, though, I'll be remembered as the one who discovered the rear shower head of a VW Camper is ideally suited to filling water balloons.
By happy circumstance, our scouts had just completed lashing together a 8' catapult. Somehow, they managed to connect the dots and...we placed third for our camp layout. Council swears it wasn't because of that small incident regarding a water balloon hitting a few members of the judging staff.
There were some new rules in the books for next years event.
to take that time to help a very skittish animal for that long shows how much heart you have, be proud of it. i have allways been very much a volunteer doing time on ambulance corps, and the us coast guard aux. . i would have to say 2 c.p.r. saves and 1 baby delivered where my biggest 1 min of fame. helping save several boaters in trouble just go with the training given.
any one who has that min. them selfs be proud of it
