Does anybody know what a reflash does?? I think that it programs the computer to ignore the root cause of the problem. EGT sensor is fouled, instead of fixing the problem, Ford just tells the computer to ignore the problem.
PS. I get 8.62mpg, but there is still no problem.(sez ford) My sled get better mileage than my truck. Pretty sad eh?
On the contrary, Glennv, the PCM has 24 sensors on the power train to tell the computer what is going on. It is a pretty good computer system. A flash is a software update for the PB+CM. The last round of flashes, Ford did a pretty good job for the most part.
The EGR is a device that was mandated by the bunny huggers via the EPA. It isn't a Ford invention to keep you coming back for maintenance.
and now we just need someone to figure out a good way around it that doesn't cause other problems... I think the bowtie folks have a board w/chip on it that they can plug the egr wires into and its sends the everythings A-OK signal. So far what I've seen here is unplugging it can cause it to detune the motor and that getting a second sensor to plug the wires into and let dangle doesn't work too well either.
RE-BOOT................. Everything is fine... I do it all the time with PC's.
Why can't the computer find what is wrong with my Truck... 8mpg is definatley a problem............. I drive to work on a full tank (12 miles) park the truck, start the truck to go to lunch and BAMMM I have just lost an 1/8 of tank of gas.....
I've to two Ford dealers already. How many do I have to go to before they tell me the truth about my truck???? Other than the fuel mileage, the truck kicks ***...............
I will let you in on a secret about Ford. I have the only 6.0L built with no problems.
No one can diagnos your problem here, if your recieving 9mpg's something is wrong. 2 dealer technitions? Taking your truck to a dealer does not imply a diesel tech worked on your truck. Ask questions. Is the shop flat rate?
I have 4 dealers in a 15 mile radius of me and I only use one, why? Good technitions are hard to find or the service manager forces them into a flat rate situation.
He is supposed to be the best in town. He's helped Ford decipher some computer clitches with the throttle. I guess I should go to a real diesel mechanic...
From what I see you bought the truck used and some modifications have been done to it. What method do you use to calculate your fuel? Tire size if not calibrated would show a lower mpg. Do you buy fuel from the same location each fill up? Last year we had a station near me shut down for fraud. I never bought bought fuel from that station but this can give you many possibilities to look at.
I buy fuel from a few different places, all big name places. I am going to try to find Gold Diesel station and try that for a bit or try to find some cetane.
The only mod was a few more leaf springs.
