gas additives

All of these fuel system cleaners and gas treatments and octane boosts.

Are they any good. Which one is the best?

I have tried Slick 50 "cleans in one tankful" is what it says hmmmm??????

how would you really know?

Then i used one 0 to 60 Octane Booster i think it was by prestone "super concentrated street legal formula" "increase octane by up to 10 points in regular unleaded gasoline"

What do some of you guess think? What have you all used and which ones do you like?

I have read a few articles in magazines over the years and most of them say the additives really don't do much if you are already using decent name brand gas. They had a low opinion of the cheap stuff.

One exception was that Car and Driver did say the Techron additive did work and clean things out. Since then other expensive additives have come out and I would assume maybe they might do something for you, but I have no proof.

I have used techron and maybe it helps lessen my need for premium if the system is carboned up. I once actually got worse performance after using techron. That was in a 79 carb'd car. After Techron it started running like heck. Probably coincidence but the dealer replaced plugs and ignition wires and everything was fine. Before using the Techron I think there was a slight stumble every once in awhile. During the first tank of techron it all went south. I still use Techron, in other cars, but am not sure if it works.

I have also used Valvoline Synpower additive, but didin't really notice anything.

It is really hard to pinpoint any improvements since a mileage problem is slow in building and could be due to more than one cause.

I still use them once in awhile like a rabbit's foot. I even use the STP stuff when it is on sale for 99cents per bottle. Whether it works or not is a matter of faith for me.

The only fuel additives I use are Stabil, on my Oldsmobile, because it sits all winter, and I use STP Fuel Injector Cleaner in both my truck and my car every 4,000 miles (oil change). I also use drygas in the winter as a precaution, sometimes.
