Hi
Just before christmas I got my new Autolite GP, The other day, two of them was bad, noticed because shorter glow time, harder to start. Changed them out today with BERU. I called the company selling me the Autoliteplugs, because they should in my eyes last longer then this. The man in the phone told me that my controller could be bad and give the plugs too high voltage. So I like to ask, how high should the voltage be, if you measure over the plug?
By the way, the two bad plugs had a crack in them, so I guess I was lucky getting them out in one peace.
Anyway, I will stay with BERU from now on.
We could tell you the voltage if we knew what truck and engine you have....please do a signature of truck info.....click quick links on the top of the page and edit signature.
The plugs are 6 volt, that's why they heat so quickly. Unfortunately that's also why they burn out so easily. Voltage is only part of it, time is usually what eats a plug. If your light stays on more than 10-12 seconds, they will drop like flies. The Berus are rumored to last longer than the spark plug brands. Autolights do tend to be the bottom of the barrel.
Thanks for reply.
Glow time now is just over 10 sec.
So, if I measure the voltage over the plug when glowing, how much should I read, if everything is ok? 6v? 12v?
