If you air down the tires a little, doesn't that help with rock retention?

I have tried every thing, and the Contie plain suck on the loose stuff. Biggest reason for the gravel "sling" is the tires called AT but really M&S have 4 continuous tread grooves and they grab and sling like crazy! Some sort of rear fender shield is a MUST....wonder how many "rust through to perforation" warranty claims Ford will pay before they sense that eliminating $50 item was stupid!

Good point, Fred. I sure hope they pay somehow for this policy, it's just wrongheaded.

Dang, I hadn't noticed Ford had eliminated the fender liner. It did seem that the fender and bumper were getting particularly dirt laden this last week. So far the Goodyears seem fine and haven't noticed them slinging gravel.
Ok, according to an axle code of 41 I have a 3.73 F-350 axle. Not sure why as it is an F250. So with my 20's I am running what? 3.6 or so?

Ok, now I am confussed. I just checked my window sticker and under optional equipment it says: "4.10 Ratio Regular Axle" NO CHARGE. The door sticker has an axle code of 41. Anybody know what's up?

1220 mi on v-10!!

I tow the same trailer now that I towed with my 99 f-150 with 5.4 and tow package and 373 diff, auto. trans. We plan (later) to get a larger trailer that would have been to big for the half ton. My v-10 is a supercab xlt 4x4 410 diff, wedgewood blue and arizona beige trim. It is PRETTY!!
The 150 did a good job of towing the 25ft prowler TT which is 5500uvw, more like 6500gvw. Going from the 1/2 to the 3/4 ton was in most ways much better.
The tow command braking system is incredible! Anyone serious about towing should experience it. It stops as good as without the trailer. It took about a minute to adjust!!
The power of the v-10 is plenty. Where as the 5.4 would be down to 45 in 2nd gear on moderate hills the v-10 hardly notices. For hiway use I just set the cruise and go. I couldn't do that with 5.4. It just couldn't hold its speed well enough. I will say to its defense it was a reliable and nice truck, just not big enough for my next 5er.
Fuel mileage with the 150 was 9-10 towing. It is so far 8-9 with the superduty. It should match the 150 once I get it broke in. Empty the 150 got 14 to 18. This is where the v-10 won't do as well. I haven't actually checked the mileage on it emty yet but I think it may get 12 to 13 my guess without the trailer. I don't use the v-10 as a daily driver. I check my mileage on every tank so I'll post as I get more info.
Lastly, compared to my f-150 lariet, this superduty is very quiet, even smoother, drives better down the road and towing is vastly superior. This v-10 has all the power you'll need.

I adjust the seats every hour or so and I stop every 2 hours and stretch ,
walk around the truck, water my horse. If I feel tired I go into the Camper and take a nap. That doesn't happen very often, but to fall asleep on the road not only means killing yourself but also a carload of innocent people so I take it very seriously as I am sure we all do. good Luck and keep awake. Wrench.
This should probably be in another thread about staying awake when night driving, but it's here now. I used to do more night driving than I have been lately. When I would find myself jerking the wheel after crossing the white line, then I knew it was time to pull off and sleep awhile. Cops seem most considerate. I've had them come to the window SEVERAL times banging on the window with that flashlight of theirs asking.. You ok? I'd be sleeping in the back seat.. and say yeah.. just had to pull off to sleep. They'd say.. Ok.. I'll check on ya from time to time"

Walking around the truck and taking a break every 2 hours is a great idea. Ya know it's time to take a nap when you feel that you HAD to pull off that very instant.

Also, never park behind a telephone pole or other vehicles and sleep in the drivers seat. Always lay down if possible. The jerking that happens on the steering wheel and brake pedal when waking up isn't good for the vehicle or the nerves :-)... I know from several experiences.

Save driving,
Tony

When at idle, give it a little gas and it goes away but comes back in a few seconds. Also, when shifting gears (automatic), I hear what sounds like a rush of exhaust. I haven't taken the time to track down what these two items are. I only need the engine to last another 92,000 miles.
So how about telling me what's wrong with my V10?

The first sound sounds like a vaccum leak.

I pulled a 10,000lb fifth wheel with my 99 V10 CC SRW with 3.73 for 5 years, about a thousand miles a year. No problems. I did downshift to 2nd on some steep hills but the V-10 is made to rev and it handled it fine.
