Unhappy HELP- Oil Pressure Light

Hello:

This forum once help me solve a problem with my oil pressure sending unit for my 292 Y-Block. It turned out the problem was the sending unit which I replaced and all was well. Now six months later I have another problem with the oil light that it stays on even after the engine is on. I saw this today when I was driving and immediately shut the engine down. Check the oil and all was fine, no overheating, no bad engine noises. So I took a chance and started it again and was prepare to shut it down again if I noticed that it was starving for oil. Sounded fine so I drove it home, only about a half a mile with nothing out of the ordinary. Do you think it could be another bad sending unit that stays on all the time? Or do you think it could be a bad or clogged oil pump? Any suggestions as what to test first and how?

Thank you for any assistance.

Pull the wire off the sending unit, does the light go out? If not you have the wire grounded out that goes to the sending unit. If it does try another unit, or put a mechanical gauge on the engine and see what that reads.

Wink

It was a bad sending unit again. I think I will take everyone's advice and run a mechanical gauge and the light off of a T fitting. Thank you everyone for your guidance
