My service manual shows the seal being removed with a special tool.
Where do i get one?
The parts store calls the front main the timing cover seal right?
Well so far i have replaced the oil pan gasket, the valve cover gasket. and hopefully this week end both main seals.
I am in the process of replaced all the dried out gaskets from the 10 years of sitting. Looses a quart every 100 miles through the front and rear mains. Only leaves one drip on the drive way and only has 108,000 miles.
Schools almost out so i 'll be working on painting it and probally get a 4bbl intake a cam and EFI manifolds.
no need for a special tool, just use a screwdriver and pry it out. If that doesn't work, use a small punch and a hammer to partially collapse the seal, then pop it right out. Just be careful not to nick the aluminum timing cover.
When you put teh new one in BE SURE it goes in PERFECTLY straight. You don't wanna be repalcing this seal in a week because it went in crooked.
