i have a 2001 ranger xlt and my camber /caster is out of wack. can anybody tell me if i buy a new camber kit thats 0 to plus or minus 1 3/4 is this what i need or do i have to buy a kit specific to the degrees that my camber is out? I've been told both and im really confused. PLEASE HELP !!!!!!
Rangers are built with washers in the caster/camber adjustment that s sets a production line run for the caster/chamber. Ford makes an oval washer for the caster/camber adjustment that provides for different adjustments. They are about $8.00 for each side and provide plenty of adjustment space. I am not sure just how much exactly, but if the truck isn't bent it should ok.

cause the kts are like 12 buck then an alignment is 59 so thats roughly 84 dollars. If the alignment shop does it all they want to charge me 250 buck plus im a do it yourself kind of guy.
Take it to another shop, I had my ranger done at the local dealer and they charged me $16.00 for the kits, nothing to put them in and 39.95 for the alignment plus tax.

who said out of whack? the alignment shop? if so,either the upper control arm(s) slipped out to loose adjust nut/cam or it took big hit and messed up frame or suspension parts.can be simple or expensive fix
whoa- caster is the angle of sai or the upper ball joint to lower ball joint angle viewed from side.camber is the tilt of wheel as viewed from front, negative is less distance between top of wheels to bottom, positive ,more distance.both out of whack is bad ,bad alignment OR axle, parts collision damage.both together throw up red flags
and i have seen bad wheel bearings, bent bolts in arms and crushed bushings throwing off alignments.and when cast parts like knuckles bend, look for rust between cracks in dipped paint on parts.
papa'64, It can easly be the alingment is off. As I said the factory alignment is set with a standard square washer, based on an average within the manf specs. After a few miles, bumps, etc it may flex out of specs and need to be realigned. Some may never need it, some do. Its just a cost saving tool for ford to set it the way they do, they don't have to check and adjust them when built because they know they will be in specs from manfacturing tolerance. If it has damage in the frontend then it may require some more work, but it not an uncommon for them to need to be fitted with kits and adjusted.

On edit: I bought a new vehicle once and the tires wore out in a few thousand miles, the dealer said the tire were covered by the tire manufacture, the tire manf claimed they wore out because of bad alignment and I never did get anyone to paid for them. Now when I buy a new one the dealer does a "free alignment" and gives me the readings on paper as part of the deal.
