Looking for more power

I have a 94 F-150 5.0L 4x4 Supercab with an 8' bed and just over 40k on the odometer. It is a dog to say the least but at least it is a Ford. I am interested in increasing the power and would like to by-pass known pit-falls along the way. Are there any reference manuals on the market that can help me through this process? I have no desire to pull the engine. I am looking at more of the bolt on types of upgrades. Chips, blower, exhaust, etc. Any thoughts on how best to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

A chip and exhaust would definetely be a good start. But also don't overlook the intake side of your engine's breathing ability. K&N makes an excellent add on Filter system for these trucks. Namely the FIPK. This kit replaces the entire air filter box. So that the only thing sitting there is the filter!

Opening up on the exhaust side will help too. I am running a high flow catalytic convertor, flowmaster Single inlet dual outlet muffler, with a set of 3 1/2 x 24' long tips. Plus the Summit shorty truck headers I added breathe a whole lot better than the stock manifolds.

There are numerous other add ons I could tell you about. If you plan on installing a supercharger, plan on spending over $2,000 american dollars. Truthfully I wouldn't risk it on a truck. I know they make one, but if you're not racing it everyday why put on a supercharger?

Thanks for the feedback. The chip and air filter were going to be my first choice. It seems like there is a toss up between the K&N and the Airforce. I have heard more good about the K&N so I think I will stick with that. I also ordered a K&N for my 2000 Beetle so it only makes sense to stay with the same company. Any suggestions on who to look at for the superchip?

Look no farther than the online store here at FTE! If you post in the computer chips forum, Danny can really give you some pointers about the superchips (he should know, he's a distributor).

Good luck, I know I want to buy one of the chips, but money's kinda tight right now. I have to replace a steering gearbox first though, (well there goes $130 bucks!)

Hi, if you get deeper into unbolting thing I would suggest a pair of GT40 heads and upper and lower intake from explorer a lot of mustangs change over to them so there must be something in the swap that is worth the trouble I have a mustang but don't want to go that far!!! JOHN (FATFORTY)
