Have someone turn the wheel back and forth as you inspect the steering system. Start looking where the column meets the steering box, then tie rod ends and drag link. Look for any looseness or play in the joints. If you find a loose one, replace it.
also, check the rag joint...it's a rubber coupling in the middle of the steering shaft. it may have gotten loose, so the top of the shaft turns more than the lower part (the one going into the steering gear box).
