ok guys heres a question.i have a 1968 ford f100 body sitting on an 84 4x4 chassis.well the frame is rust above the rear wheels.i have an 81 4x2 chassis that i can convert to 4x4 with my running gear but is what i was wondering is if i should do that conversion or find an older 4x4 chassis and set my body and stuff over on it.thanks for any help.
Diddo here, but if you up for a learning experience and the "i built this from this" pride of building something i would do it as you have the parts to do it, but if money isn't an option i would find a wrecked one ton and swap.
So the 68 body is already mounted to the '84 frame? If so, just take the '81 frame, put your running gear on it, and swap over the body mounts that allowed you to hook the '68 to the '84. The '81 and '84 frames are identical to one another, so it should be pretty straight forward.
My bad, i thought he said he had the 68 as a complete truck then the 84 4wd trucks with a bad frame and a 4x2 truck with a good frame, in that case it will be easier to do as hoxii has said.
it is 1/2 ton.it has 4speed bulldog in it and 300 I6 and i was wondering the tranny will bolt up to my 351w without changing thebellhousing.will dana 44 ttb work in the 78s dana 44 and what for transfer case did they use in the 78s????
The t-case will most likely be the gear 205, unless its a full time (high unlikey) but possible, and yeah you could make the TTB work in the 78 but it would a lot of work, i would just stick with the solid axle, but if you have you heart set on it go for it, but it would be easier to convert your 2wd to 4wd instead. As far as the bellhousing, yeah they will interchange no prblems, but you need the proper clutch and flywheel for the 351W.
the 300/302/351 all use the same clutch and bellhousing. Flywheel would be your only hangup, you'd need to go get one for a 351 (unless you're a manual already).
thanks for the help guys.i have checked around every where can think of and cant find a flywheel for the 351w.any ideas where i could get one with spendin an arm and a leg??
