Diddo here, but if you up for a learning experience and the "i built this from this" pride of building something i would do it as you have the parts to do it, but if money isn't an option i would find a wrecked one ton and swap.

So the 68 body is already mounted to the '84 frame? If so, just take the '81 frame, put your running gear on it, and swap over the body mounts that allowed you to hook the '68 to the '84. The '81 and '84 frames are identical to one another, so it should be pretty straight forward.

My bad, i thought he said he had the 68 as a complete truck then the 84 4wd trucks with a bad frame and a 4x2 truck with a good frame, in that case it will be easier to do as hoxii has said.

That sounds like a good deal, this way you get the solid axle. What is the size of that 78 (1/2 ton, 3/4 ton 1 ton?)

The t-case will most likely be the gear 205, unless its a full time (high unlikey) but possible, and yeah you could make the TTB work in the 78 but it would a lot of work, i would just stick with the solid axle, but if you have you heart set on it go for it, but it would be easier to convert your 2wd to 4wd instead. As far as the bellhousing, yeah they will interchange no prblems, but you need the proper clutch and flywheel for the 351W.

the 78 d44 should be a high pinion in which case yes they are interchangeable ring, and pinion with the TTB D44

If the 351W is considered a "Small Block" then the trans will fit. The 300 I-6 engines have a small block bolt pattern...

the 300/302/351 all use the same clutch and bellhousing. Flywheel would be your only hangup, you'd need to go get one for a 351 (unless you're a manual already).
