I'm in a parking lot and there is a traffic jam in front of me. I'm last in line so I look over my shoulder, check my mirrors and proceed to back out. Well I feel this little "bump" and then I hear a horn. I cussed and jumped out to see who or what was behind me. I felt like I just smacked bumpers with someone. I was horrified to see the damage on the Honda Civic. She had pulled right up behind me and completely out of my view. The hood was completely caved in and her grill pushed all the way back and both front fenders were pretty tweeked. My truck is fairly new (F-350, CC, Fx4, SRW, SB) and I was also concerned about it. A little paint transfer on the receiver hitch. I have AAA insurance I'm afraid they are gonna jack my rates sky high. I have no prior accidents.
I'm gonna get a little black silhouette of a Honda and put it on the side of my truck now.
Why do people do that??? Pull right up onto your bumper like that and then get mad when you don't see them and back over them. Makes me want to move to a no fault state!
if you leave it in reverse for a few seconds and honk, you might hear the little screaches first next time.i had similar happen, but it was an angry guy who forgot he was in a little car touching his licence plate to my hitch in my lifted f-150 with 32 inch tires.i brought my feelings to his attention by placing the tranny in reverse and he buggered back in a hurry.his eyes got real big,i got a chuckle
I once was turning into a Subway for dinner in my 75 f-250 with 38.5's and felt a bump as made the right turn in. I thought i ran over a big curb or something. I looked out my right mirror and saw a car under my truck. he tried to cut in the shoulder and pass me when I was turning in. I had a scratch under my door, he had a totaled rx-7.
Naw I got just about everything EXCEPT reverse sensors, I thought they would be a pain in my neck. I am thinking about mounting a camera back there, would help me hook up to trailers too
These stories are funny, but there is another side to this .....
I think that we all kind of assume a responsibility with these 7000 pound bulldozers we drive. I've always had my kids in big heavy trucks for obvious reasons, and I bet alot other people here do the same. But we have to remember that there are alot of young moms driving around in Honda Civics with their little kids in the back seat.
Think about it ...... one mistake on our part (and we are all only human) ..... and what can our trucks to that young family in the Civic.
I don't mean to preach to anyone here. It just came to mind because my oldest boy just turned 16 and he will be driving a SD. And I have a sister-in-law that carries two little girls around in a Ford Focus. I try very hard to make my boy understand.

Jim, glad to see someone is trying to teach something to the next generation. It seems with young drivers today (thank god, 15 years, 6 months before mine gets a licence!) it's 'here's the keys, there's the car, don't forget to get some gas' and no thoughts about the responsibility involved. It's not just a big truck issue... it's a driver education and maturity issue in general. Just my .02.
Thats why my WIFE made me get them. They really help when you can't see the small stuf behind you.

Two part question -
1- do you really find the sensors to be beneficial?
2- how do the sensors respond to stuff you want behind you, like a trailer. Do you have to turn them off for towing?
Been thinking about installing them on my '00 f250, because of all the kids in my neighborhood.
good point, maybe the camera IS the way to go.you could lose those mirriors(sides) a tiny mpg that could add up and more safety? still should have rearview inside as backup.
