1998 Explorer Limited, Heater Core has gone bad Anybody got a diagram possibly of where all the screws are in this thing to get the dash out. Had to have it taken out before for other repairs and had a new heater core put in at that time, but now its gone bad and the person that did it last time don't want to go through that torcher again. Any diagrams or suggestoins would be very welcomed!!!
I don't know about the 98. but on my 92. it comes out from the engine compartment side of the fire wall. Best suggestion I have is to get a haynes manual or similar.
I have a Haynes, but it isn't detailed enough to show where all the dashboard screws are. The only way i belive it comes out on this one is from the inside w/ the dash out. And when i had the guy put in the new duct work for the heater, the center consol, steering wheel, and everypart of the dash had to come out. This is bad cuz its a limited and loaded w/ all the extras. Still anyhelp on where the dash screws are would be much appreciated.
It might the blend door on your heater, check out heatertreater.net for more info since I had the same problem on my 1998 explorer. It only took one hour to fix and it works great.
If you go to Auto replacement part, blend door fix, Heat, AC replacement parts you will find out that the blend door is broken but you can fix it without taking out the dash or anything else! They will answer any questions you might have. The blend door is the problem on 1996 thru 2002 fords with the manual temp controls and not the auto controls. I did my since the door was broken at the top of the actuator for the blend door and you can see it with a mirror after you take off the actuator. They will explain all of it plus they have a link to a u-tube showing as how it's done. My heater and air works great now.
It would help to have more info on what the problem is. Pulling the dash apart would be the last thing to do. If it's a lack of heat, it could be the blend door as already mentioned, or as simple as a clogged heater core. If it is clogged try back flushing it.
