I have a rotted out cab corner on my 1977 F-250. What would be the best way to repair this...i'm thinking of buying a repair corner to weld to it.
How hard of a job is this?
It's not hard, just time consuming.
I hope your panel fits better than mine!
I might have to section my replacement panel to take out 1/4" or so to get it to fit right.
Can't tack weld a panel when it does'nt line up & sticks out 1/4" past the existing sheetmetal.
It's a Schott panel too.
I'd try to find something made by someone else for your truck!
I replaced the cab corners on my 82 f100 along with the lower door post. I took the bed off and pushed it back a foot so I could get to the back side of the cab. I have pictures in my restoration gallery of the process. Be prepared to fix the sheet metal behind the cab corners, mine where in really bad shape. They line up quite well but I did have a bit of trimming to do. Make sure that you cut very small amounts of the new panel away at a time til it lines up perfect. Fred
Cutting out the metal and replacing with new is the only way it will last awhile. Make sure you spray undercoating or something on the backside of the new metal too. I usually make my own patch panels. Most often it can be done with hand tools and migwelder with around 18 or 20 gauge steel. If you have a sharp bend or edge to form, just cut slits in the metal, bend and mig weld back up when you got it right. If you can find reasonably priced patch panels thats cool, but if you have to cut them to make them fit like 58 ford said your really not that far ahead. I've made door bottoms and outer rockers and stuff like that.
