suggestions please...

ok... i've got a 94 f-150 w/ a 302... i like it... and i got dual exhaust put on it w/ a 40 series delta flow muffler last summer... well... it sounds ok... but it's not what i expected... it sounds good in low gears... but it kinda sounds like it hums and doesnt sound quite as mean as i wanted it to... it has 2 cats in line with a little space between them... would gutting out the cats make it sound alot better/meaner... or would it sound crappy and redneck... ((no offense to anyone... im one to)) as most folks... i dont really wanna spend too much...but if i gotta i will...any suggestions... my neighbor's a mechanic and he helps me w/ everything including gettin parts... please help!:P

Gutting the cats would help but make sure you keep it legal, you might not be allowed to gut them due to emmissions testing. You might be able to install 2 high flows though.

For the most part its trial and error with flows LOL. I have heard alot of people say that they love them and lots that say they suck. Personally I hate them but I also believe that they have one of them sounds where you either like them or you don't.

I agree with 351M about Flowmasters. I personally dont like them either.

You can gut the cats, then weld a pipe through them so exhaust flow isnt hurt too much. You will probably need some MIL eliminators to keep the dreaded CEL from coming on. That will make the sound louder, but louder isnt better, IMO.

lol, just chop that second cat off and you'll be good. Gutting takes too much work. That second cat hold most of the sound in.

oh, and don't worry about the Check engine light, it won't come on since you have a pre '96 truck.

You get rid of the second cat and it'll sound a LOT better IMO. I have a FM 40 original from the first cat back and it sounds quite nice. I might try something different this summer though, just for $#its and giggles...
