I just bought a 1980 Ford Stepside with a 351 yesterday.
The truck has a recently rebuilt motorcraft 2 barrel carb on it. It accelrates fine. Doesn't backfire, snort, crackle or pop. Starts everytime too. The problem is that after coming to an idle from a hard accelration, it will idle low and and almost stall or stall. It does this less often after I set the idle up higher, but it will still do it. Any ideas gentlemen as to what is causing mytruck to stall?
sounds like a weak fuel pump or clogged filter. Someone with more ideas should be along shortly, but thats all i can think of right off the top of my head.
Well I adjusted the idle higher still, and now it doesn't stall....BUT, it now runs around 1,000-1,500 (no tach, just a pair of ears) in drive and reverse, and 3,000 in park and neutral! lol
I had an 83 F-150 that did that and it turned out to be a bad EGR valve. Check to see if the orifice is clogged or the valve itself is sticking on you. Just my $.02.
