Ford uses weights on the flywheel/flexplate to balance the crankshaft, and can not be swapped between engines.

You can find different size wheels on the end of the engine, but they are specific to that engine, and can't be swapped between.

Ford used a three bolt starter on the FE series engine and that one can't be used on anything else. ASAIK

Hope I made myself more clear

no, i got ya. The 5.0 motor has the starter bolted directly to the bellhousing. It looks like I going to have to use the correct flywheel for the current bellhousing/trans and have the whole rotating assembly balanced.

well guys it looks as though I can have the 5.0 flywheel and the i6 flywheel matchbalanced and just use the i6 flywheel with the setup. If the i6 won't work then I can just go with a 302 truck flywheel. This should hopefully save a whole bunch of work. I'll let you all know what happens soon.

Something that Ive noticed that always becomes a problem later is that
the newer 302 block does not have the clutch equalizer (hole) in the side of
the block some people call it the ( Z BAR ) ! I have ran into this in swapping
in a 87 302 HO, I took the bracket from a 73-79 I think if I remeber right you
will need to grind a little on the bracket to make it fit the newer block, but it
will fit and work very good, this bracket bolts to the block and kind of bends
around the edge of bellhousing and the clutch equalizer bushing end pushes
into the bracket and the equalizer extends to the frame pivit bracket!

Tought you would like to plan on that now.

thats good info. I was going to use the bellhousing thats already there, thats why I'm going through all of this crap to get the flywheel straightened out. I figured if I could use the bellhousing thats already there, I could get around that little "z-bar" issue. If not, then I'll use your advice. Thanks

This is a newer block issue, not a bellhousing issue! I know that if your trying
to get every thing together and somthing like that ( '' little '' z-bar issue '' ) comes
up at the wrong time it could delay the swap .

good luck and keep us posted!
