I am building a 400 and believe i have a clevland head it is the same except thier is no water passage from the head to intake. will this cause problems?

i believe that will cause a block off in the circulation of coolant.

You said you were builing a 400cid. If that is true then the engine family is of the 351C/351M/400M family in which will only work on that series of motor. There is a exception to this. In 1969 Ford installed Cleveland 4V heads on all Boss 302's. This head was modified for water crossover through the intake manifold to be put on Boss 302's in 69 and 70. you can install early model 2bl cleveland heads on a 351M/400 but you will have to have hardened seats installed. I hope this helps
