Wild story! Don't know if it is really BBs fault. Definately the cashiers, managers, and police over reacted. The $2 dude was over reacting too! IMOP. But he was clearly within his rights for sure.
I do believe I'd check into a lawyer on that one .... and I'm not the kind of guy that would file frivolous law suits. That would be a total humiliation and wrongfully done. The store people were in the wrong and the local police were in the wrong. IMHO.
It just shows me how low you have to prove your IQ is to work there. The cops would say that he wasn't really arrested, just temporarily being detained untill it was all sorted out. That keeps their butt out of a lawsuit.

How is the "$2 dude" over reacting? $2 bills are listed as a current legal tender by the Treasury Department. They still print them (along with 1's, 5's, 10's, 20's, 50's and 100's), just because the morons at Best Buy are unfamiliar with them doesn't make them any less legal to use. I imagine if he tried using Susan B. Anthonys they probably would have used a Tazer gun on him.
Public humiliation, false imprisonment, destruction of reputation...that's gonna cost them.
funny, when the new $50 bill came out I used them to buy diesel fuel, the guy took em then called the police while I was fueling. I had no idea what was up but the cops asked me to come back in the station while they sorted it all out, well the clerk ended up being pretty embarrased when one of the deputys pointed out a huge blow up of the new bill and company memo detailing new bills in circulation.
Does anybody know how the oddball $2 bill came to be ? Well, my Uncle who was a avid race track enthusiast, and did quite well, told me back when I was a kid that the horse tracks lobbied the feds to print $2 bills so it would be easier for them at the $2 windows at the track. He used to give us kids $2 bills when he came to visit.

Your Uncle must be pretty old, the first US $2 bill was issued in 1862.
You know, the other day a guy came in with $70 worth of $2 bills, naturally, not seeing many of them, I was a little cautious. I kindly explained to the guy to give me a second while i checked them a little bit, he was pretty cool about it. I marked a few and was like, ok, they're fine, and gave him some larger bills and that was that. I have seen a counterfeit bill come through my store before, there are notable differences between them. I think that best buy was in the wrong and they better be giving me a full out stereo system for the truck or a huge 50"+ TV, with home delivery or installation. I mean, the guy had been there 18 years, and was publically embarrased for doing nothing wrong, in front of people that he probably had known since they were kids. That right there ain't right. I would go fuss at best buy, hit best buy corporate, and if nothing goes there, take em to court. He should get something out of that.
every new and then i get some $2 bills from the bank and use them. very rarely do i go to 7-11, but one morning last month the local coffee shop was not open yet, so i went to the 7-11 for my morning paper anc coffee. i gave the imigrant clerk a $2 bill, and he said "you no pay no fake" i said what?? and he said the same thing adding i police call. but i beat him to it, call the dispatch desk requesting an officer. 30 seconds later, my cousin walkes in asking what is going on. i politely asked him to explain to that stupid ignorant man that if he wants to work in this country, he should know what is fake money and what is real.
the reason for my statement was that im the past month they had gotten over 50 complaints from that store for giving foreign coins as change, but considered us currency as counterfeit
