56 Radiators

I have a 56 F100 and want to replace the radiator. I'm looking for a place, i.e. web site were I can get measurements of the core and placement of the inlet and output tubes. I figure if I can find a stock radiator I can drop in with minor modifications I will be better off than that buying a custom. I need the upper hose connector in the center and the lower on the right side.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

A 6 cylinder radiator out of a 56 has the inlet and outlet positions as you have listed.

Also a 54 and 55 6 cyl radiator will work too, but, you need to drill another set of mounting holes in the radiator brackets to fit the 56 core support.

A long time ago I installed a radiator from a 78 Ford Bronco into a 56f100 I built. It pretty much bolted in place with no modifications, fan shroud and all.Unfortunately I can't remember where the outlets were. But any rad shop will change that for you pretty reasonably.Probably any Ford pick up from that era should work.Hope this helps.

http://www.usradiator.com/ These guys have some dimensions on their website. They also make a very good 4 core radiator in case you change your mind. I have one I got from So-Cal speed shop in Phx. Randy

Rick,

I just bought a radiator with the hose outlets as you described except the top hose is more toward the left than dead center. It is for a 72-79 Dodge D200 pickup. I bought mine on Ebay. If it will fit my 48 F-1 it should also fit your 56. Check with some of the radiator suppliers who have an Ebay store on Ebay. Some of them show pictures of the radiators with the hose outlets and sizes as well as height and width.

I have an old stock 56 rad you can have and rebuild if you want it (in Oregon) OR I put in a new unit made by a company called MODINE in my 56 for about $150. Just about drops right in..I can pass along the part# if you like. In Tucson you sure want to check on the cooling requirements for your motor..I spent a few years down there...hot. verrrry hot...

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post. Very good suggestions and I think the Dodge radiator it the way to go. Followed Vern's suggestion and found a Dodge 4 row heavy duty radiator on Ebay. Even has a trans cooler.

Darn! I think I seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hummmmmm.... what is that sound? A train whisle?

Hopefully it's not a train.

When you get the radiator you will find that it has a U-shaped side bracket on it. I cut off the part of the U toward the front of the radiator and mounted the radiator using only the part of the U-bracket closest to the engine. All I had to do was drill a few extra holes in it to bolt it to my original core support.
